It is worth noting that in recent times, global economic fluctuations and successive strike activities in North America and some European countries have increased congestion in Nordic and U.S. ports, especially the number of vessels waiting to berth outside U.S. ports, which is still increasing.
Relevant data show that as of the morning of July 19, there are 140 container ships waiting outside North American ports, compared with 125 on July 8, an increase of 12%, compared with 92 on June 10, a significant increase of 52%.
Of these vessels, 37% were waiting at U.S. West Coast ports and 63% were waiting at U.S. East Coast and Gulf of Mexico ports. Currently, many U.S. terminals are nearing saturation in terms of yard utilization.
Meanwhile, the recent strike activities in several European ports have also increased the congestion in local ports.
On July 14, local time, German dock workers began a 48-hour strike, resulting in the operation of major German ports, including the Port of Hamburg, Bremerhaven and Wilhelmshaven, was seriously affected.
Some industry insiders believe that although the strike has come to an end for the time being, the subsequent impact on port operations will continue.
