Maersk and DP World Target Brazil’s Growth Potential with Long-Term Agreement

On March 17, DP World and Maersk signed an eight-year strategic agreement to expand maritime services at DP World’s terminal in Santos Port, Brazil. This partnership aims to capitalize on Brazil’s growing trade potential and enhance logistics capabilities in the region.

Key Highlights of the Agreement

  • DP World’s Investment:

    • DP World operates one of Brazil’s largest private terminals in Santos Port, currently handling 1.4 million TEUs annually.

    • The company plans to invest BRL 450 million to increase annual throughput to 1.7 million TEUs by 2026.

    • An additional BRL 1.6 billion will be invested to further boost capacity to 2.1 million TEUs by 2027.

  • Maersk’s Commitment:

    • In the first year, Maersk will launch 6 new services with 8 weekly calls at Santos Port.

    • By 2026, the number of services will increase to 7, with 10 weekly calls.

Record-Breaking Performance in 2024
DP World achieved a new record at Santos Port in 2024, handling over 1.25 million TEUs, a 14% year-on-year increase. This growth was driven by expanded container operations and the introduction of new shipping routes.

Strengthening Logistics Networks
DP World has also enhanced its network by signing a new agreement with Rumo, Brazil’s leading rail operator, to develop a new terminal for grain and fertilizer transportation. This project will add 12.5 million tons of annual operational capacity.
