Maritime Knowledge: A Comprehensive List of Major Routes and Basic Ports Worldwide

In international maritime transportation, "basic ports" refer to the important hub ports of a country or region, similar to large transfer stations in railway transportation. Ships usually call at these ports, which are equipped with advanced facilities, have well-developed container transportation, and have a concentration of supporting service enterprises (such as freight forwarders, customs brokers, and trucking companies). They have frequent schedules and large and stable cargo volumes. "Non-basic ports" refer to all other ports except the basic ports. For goods destined for these ports, in addition to the basic freight rate, a transshipment surcharge or direct sailing surcharge is usually added (depending on the route and volume of cargo). The arrangement of ship routes usually focuses on basic ports, where ships first call at all basic ports and then transport goods to non-basic ports through transshipment.
