As the China-US trade situation continues to change, more and more assemblers, manufacturers or suppliers to the furniture industry are taking advantage of the advantages offered by the US-Mexico-Canada agreement by expanding their operations in northern Mexico to meet the demand for furniture as well as office furniture in the US market.
Salvador Cervantes, head of SIDECO, said in 2022 that his company is headquartered in Mexico City, but has already opened a branch in Monterrey, providing the same services as the parent company, serving Mexican states such as Nuevo Leon, etc. The region's growing furniture industry demands technology, and these states primarily export high-quality furniture to the United States.
Cervantes also said that the industry in northern Mexico is huge. The demand for furniture in the US market is growing exponentially. This is one of the reasons for the growth of the Mexican economy. Mexican producers don't sell in Mexico anymore, they usually make in Mexico and then sell all of their products to the US. The main destination for the Mexican furniture industry is the United States, with sales to the United States exceeding $1.363 billion.
Cervantes also mentioned that the high price of shipping containers from China to Mexico has led to an increase in the final price of furniture sold to North America. Starting in 2020, rising ocean freight rates from China to Mexico have affected prices and delivery times for suppliers in the furniture industry.
In addition to cutting machine equipment, Mexico also imports textile fabrics and polyurethane that are important to the furniture supply chain. SIDECO also predicts that 20% of imported machinery will be used in the furniture industry in northern Mexico this year.
